Biking Blog on Thompson Conviction: Bicycling.com weighs in on this…

Bicycling.com weighs in on this week’s conviction of Brentwood doctor Christopher Thompson for assault with a deadly weapon . “Although cyclists were generally relieved that Thompson had been convicted, I believe that this case is not really a victory for anyone.” Cycling lawyer Bob Mionske doesn’t think this case will serve as a precedent in other vehicular vs. bike cases because Mionske feels most other plaintiffs won’t have a paper trail (the smoking gun was that other cyclists came forward with stories of being forced off the road by the doctor). Oh, and he’s certain Thompson will appeal. [Bicycling.com]

Via the Pasadena Star-News : “The [County Board of Supervisors] is expected to vote today on an ordinance banning smoking in county parks, beaches and other public places. The proposal also includes county facilities managed by contractors, such as public golf courses.” Sorry, golfers. Tough month . The ban, proposed by Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, would take effect in 30 days.
